Best Las Vegas Neighborhoods for Families

One might not think Sin City is a great place to raise a family—after all, it’s known for gambling and wild nightlife. Those who live here, however, know that Las Vegas as a whole has so much to offer to families both on the strip and outside of it. Around the strip, there are plenty of small, quaint neighborhoods, perfect for raising a family, and living so close to the entertainment capital of the world means you’re a spit away from some of the best shows, amusement rides, and music venues in the country.

If you’re looking for a place to hang your hat and houses for rent in Las Vegas are piquing your interest, it’s worth it to truly consider raising your family in this unique, creative, and beautiful area. Unless you’re not looking at buying the penthouse suite of the Venetian for the whole fam, you’ll probably be looking for neighborhoods that boast low crime, quality schools, and affordable housing.

Henderson

One of the most popular family-friendly neighborhoods in Las Vegas is Henderson. With low crime, great public schools, and a quaint suburban feel, Henderson has everything most families are looking for when it comes to raising their children. This neighborhood is located just southeast of the center of Las Vegas, not far from the Arizona border.

Not only will you be close to the strip when you’re looking for an entertaining night out, but you’ll also be just a stone’s throw away from Boulder City and the Hoover Dam, a great day-trip location for families. The Hoover Dam, a real marvel of engineering, separates the Colorado River from Lake Mead, the nation’s largest reservoir. This is the perfect place to take the family for a trip that will be both fun and educational.

Summerlin

The residential community of Summerlin is located along the Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon. Purposefully built to provide great quality of life to families and working professionals looking for a safe, suburban community, Summerlin is often ranked one of the best places in the state. It has a bustling downtown center with a real sense of community, and plenty of nature—the community boasts 200 miles of trails. This is the type of area where you can live, work, eat, and play.

While this type of atmosphere might not be for everyone, it is an absolute dream for anyone who has ever dreamed of living in a tight-knit upscale community. That quality of life, however, comes at a cost a little higher than other neighborhoods in the Vegas area. If you’re able to spend the money, this little desert oasis might be the perfect spot for you and your loved ones to build a life together.

Centennial Hills

Northwest of the strip you’ll find the neighborhood of Centennial Hills. This area is still growing, which means you can still find homes here at a relatively low cost compared to other neighborhoods around the strip. Unlike Summerlin, Centennial provides the opportunity to own a larger bit of property, perfect for families looking for single-family homes and a bit of land for the children to play.

Centennial has terrific schools and lower crime rates than a lot of the areas surrounding the strip. There is plenty for kids to do in the area, as well as lots of amenities for parents. Orchards, animal sanctuaries, Floyd Lamb State Park—there are so many great spots to take the kids for a day trip, and some great casinos and restaurants for parents’ date night out too.
