psalm-37-delighting-in-the-lord-2

Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Psalm 37 is a beautiful Psalm, I would encourage you to read all of it. It’s about waiting on the Lord and knowing He will make things right, even when it seems like bad people are getting their way over everyone else. I’m going to focus on verses 3 and 4 for this blog, where the psalmist tells us to trust in the Lord and to take delight in Him, and He will give us the desires of our heart.

Trusting in the Lord and doing good even when we see bad people get their way is hard. It takes believing that the Lord is better and actively choosing the right thing. A lot of times it could be so much easier to cheat, gossip, or lie, but God is always better. I know that I have never looked back and regretted taking the higher road or making the right choice.

the desires of your heart

When the psalmist says “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart”, he isn’t saying “if you act excited about the Lord he will give you everything you ever wanted.” When we begin to delight in the Lord (spend time with Him and worship in awe of Him), He will give us desires that He will fulfill. Isn’t that so cool? God will give us dreams that He will help us achieve to further His kingdom. Our desires will be like His once we get to know Him. That’s something I want to be a part of!
