And what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

a life changing power

In Ephesians 1, Paul explains the spiritual blessings that we have been given in Christ and then ends with a prayer, praying that we would come to know and experience what has been given to us by God. This passage is an excerpt from that prayer. The main thing Paul is praying here is that the reader (that’s US!) will not only know about, but experience the power of the gospel. The same power that raised Jesus up out of a grave and then made him the king of the world – Paul wants us to not only know, but experience that power. The same power that belongs to God, whose reign is almighty and forever – has been given to us.

Wrapping your head around just how powerful our God is honestly kind of overwhelming. Realizing that His power, the power that performed miracles and raised Jesus from the dead, is alive and in us is even more overwhelming – but also it is life-changing.

Think of all the times you have felt powerless, all the times you have felt like you are stuck and you don’t know what to do, when you were frustrated because of the weight of confusion in a situation. Maybe you’re in that place now. Whatever it is or whenever it was, put those moments and situations next to the power of God. Paul describes the power of God in the passage as immeasurable. It’s limitless. There’s nothing that can go against it that it will not defeat!

prayer

God, come and show me just how big and just how powerful you are. Show me your power at work in me and in my life. The situations around me and the things in my head and my heart that I believe are untouchable and unfixable, show me your power there. God, I want to feel and see and know your power. Thank you that you love me THAT much to give me access to you, your love, and your power. Amen.
