Arise, shine; for your light has come,
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, darkness will cover the earth
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you
And His glory will appear upon you.
Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.

— Isaiah 60:1-3 NASB

we don’t have to strive

A lot of times in my walk with God, I have felt distant from God or like I wasn’t living like I was supposed to. When I am in the midst of feeling like that, a lot times I forget to look to God for help. In this passage, we see that there is a command to arise because the flory of the Lord has risen upon us. When I first read this, I felt unsure of my ability to shine my light for God, but His commands always come with a promise though that He will be with us to give us strength to complete them. In this passage, we see that the Lord has given us His light. In other words, we don’t have to strive to be God’s light to people. We just have to recognize that God has already given us everything we need to show other people His love, and we then act out of His love.

others will be drawn to the light

This simple truth should liven up our days. We have been given the gift to live under the glory of God in His light. We are called to overcome those things in our lives that weigh us down, not because we are strong, but we have a God who is an overcomer of those things. What happens next with that? Others (nations in these verses) will see the light of God that is present in your life, and they will be drawn to it.

pray

God, teach me how to live in the light and what that looks like. I lift up any of my struggles to you and declare that you have already overcome them. Thank you for being my helper. Let others be brought into your light because of Your work in my life. Amen.
