Where we go & what we do

  • Location: The Jamaica trip is divided up into 4 teams that visit 4 separate sites in Jamaica; while we have multiple sites, small groups/small group leaders will always be placed together on the same site. You will find out your location over Winter Break!

    • Every location is in a safe area of town & is very secure. There will be 5-6 staff members who lead each trip.

      • Mandeville: Gulf View Hotel

      • Port Maria: Casa Maria Hotel

      • St. Anns: Seacrest Beach Hotel

  • Travel: We will fly into Montego Bay or Kingston, and then be transported to the different locations by bus. Frequent Flier miles/buddy passes cannot be used.

    • Passports: You need one!!! And it needs to expire 6 months after we return or later (September 17th, 2019). Get an up to date passport ASAP!!!

  • Dates: Spring Break

We seek to serve the people of Jamaica in a variety of ways, including manual labor as well as personal ministry. There will be projects such as building houses, painting churches, laying cement, and many others. We'll also visit nursing homes, orphanages, infirmaries, etc to minister to those in need. Other activities include visiting a local Jamaica church, team time at night, fun day at Dunn's river falls, and lots more. You'll be given a specific itinerary as we get closer to the trip, but this is general overview:

Pre-Trip Info

  • Sign Ups: To sign up go to www.ugawesley.org, click on the link at the top that says “Sign Ups” and then select “Mission Trips” and follow the instructions. Your spot is not secured until you turn in your $125 non-refundable deposit. ($100 goes towards your trip & $25 is an admin fee) (Note: Jamaica is a separate application from Wesley Missions)

    • You can pay that deposit 2 ways:

      • By Check: The check needs to be made out to the UGA Wesley Foundation with your name and "Jamaica" on the memo line. (ex: Daniel Simmons - Jamaica) You can bring it to Freshley on Monday night, or to Wesley during office hours.

      • Online: You can pay online through PayPal - go to ugawesley.org, click the give tab, then click “give to a mission trip”. Before you donate, be sure to write in your name & Jamaica under “Student Name.” *Please note that PayPal charges a service fee of around 3%* So, if you pay the deposit online, please pay $129!

  • Support Raising Meeting: October 21st, 8pm, Wesley Main Chapel

  • Deadlines: The following is a schedule of all deadlines for the trip:

    • October 8th - $125 deposit due // November 5th - $250 due // December 3rd - $350 due // January 9th - $875 due // February 19th - $1875 due

  • Meetings/conference: There will be a mandatory conference for everyone going to Jamaica on January 25th & 26th. Aside from the conference, the teams will meet 3 more times on a Sunday evening before the trip second semester. You’ll know what these dates are once the teams are set.

MONEY!!!

Cost: $1875. Please be aware that we will train students on how to raise support (fundraise). The student (or student’s parents) are not simply expected to write a check for the trip. A $125 deposit is due at time of sign up - $100 of this goes towards your trip cost, $25 goes towards an administrative fee that is in addition to the cost of your trip. NO CASH WILL BE ACCEPTED.

The truth: GOD PROVIDES!!! Every year, if students give themselves to faithfully send letters & follow up, we watch God provide the funds to go! If support raising or the cost of the trip make you nervous, that is okay - don’t let it stop you if you feel God leading you\if you want to come! We will give you a lot of training at the support raising meeting - October 21st at 8pm at the Wesley Main Chapel!
