Cast your cares on the Lord

and he will sustain you;

he will never let

the righteous be shaken. [Psalm 55:22]

This verse out of context is powerful, but if you take Psalm 55 as a whole, this verse is one of the craziest expressions of faith that we could read. David writes that anguish, fear and trembling have overtaken his heart. His circumstances weigh him down, yet he still writes that God will sustain him and that he will not be shaken. This is faith in the middle of trial.

One of my favorite verses is 1 Peter 5:7 which says “Cast all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.” Most people have a view of God as one who is distant or if He is even involved it would be for only the big things in life. However, when we think this way about God, we miss his heart for us. We limit His involvement in our lives. The truth is that God cares for every single part of you. The “little” things that you think about throughout your day, He cares about those. The desires you have for your future, He cares about those. The hobbies and silly activities you love, He cares about those. There’s not a part of you He is uninterested in. He wants to be involved.

I’ve discovered in my life that when I try to find my solution in other people, I will eventually be disappointed and in need again. When I take my insecurities and worries and desires and ask other people to handle them for me, they will feel burdened and i will always feel unfulfilled. This concept can be pretty extensive in each of us, so I challenge you to ask yourself: Who carries the weight of your cares? Is it you? Is it someone else? Is it God? Ultimately, He alone is the only one who can sustain you. And He will be faithful to never let you down.

God, I pray that i know you more than ever as the God who is close and intimately involved in my life. I give you every care, I give you every worry, I give you every desire. I pray that you sustain me and fulfill me. You are the source of my life. I Love you, in Jesus’ name. Amen
