“ If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25

Why should we live life lead by the Spirit?

To put it simply, there is really no other way to live as a follower of Christ. The abundance of life that many seek is only found through the Holy Spirit. Here are a couple reasons I have found that make it super important as Christians to live lead by the Spirit:

  1. Relationship: Living life led by the spirit is what allows religion to become relationship. Without the Holy Spirit, there is no relationship with God, just rules and rigidity. It is in this relationship that we find the comfort of God. It is here where we can receive truths about who we are and who God is in a way that actually changes the way that we live.  It is not enough to just know about God. He invites us to actually know who He is as a friend and a Father and we do this through the Holy Spirit. It is important to remember that relationship is always the goal. It is more important than anything I am going to list below because our greatest call is to love and be loved by God.

  2. Transformation: Living life with the Spirit affords us the opportunity to be transformed into the image of Christ. When we partner with what the Holy Spirit is doing in us or speaking to us, we are given the tools, wisdom, and strength to act and think in ways that totally contradict our flesh. In 2 Corinthians 3:18, it says, “We are being transfigured into his very image as we move from one brighter level of glory to another. And this glorious transfiguration comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” It is with the Holy Spirit, that cycles of anxiety and depression can be broken. It is with the Spirit, that relationships can be restored. The Holy Spirit can actually transform and redeem our past, brokenness, and everything in between.

  3. Guidance. In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is called the Helper. He is meant to be our help and guide on this earth. The Spirit enables us to make impossible decisions. He guides us into the good things God has for us. He embodies the very promise God made to us in Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

  4. Ministry. To be an effective minister of God’s love and goodness on this earth, we need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to love those who seem unlovable, forgive those that are impossible to forgive, and gives us courage to reach out to people who need to know Him. Without the Holy Spirit, it is just too easy to make it all about us. With His Spirit though, we can easily come back to a place of dependence and humility that God loves to bless.

If you are currently in need of any or all of these things, I would encourage you to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to become a part of your daily walk with God. Ask God to make you sensitive to His Spirit. If you want to know more of God, ask the Holy Spirit to come and bring revelation. If you are seeking transformation or freedom from certain habits or struggle, ask the Holy Spirit to help you. Ask Him for self control and accountability. Ask Him to help you to take your thoughts captive. If you are in need of guidance, ask the Spirit to come close and direct your steps. Lastly, If you want to have an effect on the people and world around you in the name of Jesus, ask the Spirit to bring you to humility and dependence on God to do what may seem impossible.

Let’s Pray

God, thank you for the gift of your spirit. Help me to become more sensitive to the Spirit in my life. I pray that above all I would seek relationship with God through the Holy Spirit and that would be my priority. Amen.
