“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life” (Romans 5:8-10).

As a soldier prepares for battle, the entire armor is pointless if the head is not protected by a helmet. This applies as well in our spiritual life. Each day as christians we are to protect our minds from spiritual attack from the enemy.

What is salvation?

Before discussing how our salvation can protect us in battle, it is important to first understand what it is and how we can have it. God sent his son Jesus Christ to earth as a perfect sacrifice so that we can be saved from our sins and from living a life of death in hell (for more information on this topic, read any of the gospels in the bible: Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John). From that sacrifice, God made a way for us to be saved from our sins. Romans 10:9 says “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” All we have to do is believe in Jesus, and the fact that he died for each and every one of us, and invite his spirit to come live in our life. Through salvation in Christ, we are saved from death and promised to spend eternal life in heaven.

How does salvation apply to the Armor of God?

We can use our salvation in our everyday life to protect ourselves from attack from the enemy. In Genesis 3, we learn about the story of Eve being deceived by satan to believe in lies about God, and disobey God in order to do what she wanted instead. In the same way that satan lied to Eve, he is daily seeking ways to lie to us to take our focus off God and others, and instead look at ourselves and what we want to do. John 10:10 says that the enemy has come to steal, kill, and destroy us…. However it goes on to say that God has come so that we may have life and have it to the full. By using the helmet of salvation, we are giving God the permission to control our mind.

How can I activate the Helmet of Salvation?

As Christians we need to know the power we have in Christ. We don’t have to listen to another lie from the enemy, but instead we can ask for God’s wisdom and protection over our minds to know what is and is not from God. We are told in John 8:32 “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” As we grow closer to God, dig deeper in his word, spend more time in prayer, we will be free from any lies the enemy tells us. It is not always an easy process, but there is power in the ability to take our thoughts captive. When a lie enters our mind, instead of believing it or thinking on it, we can immediately pray and ask God to remind us of HIS truth.

If you have never asked The Lord into your heart, you can pray this prayer:

God thank you for saving me from death. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I come to you at this moment to tell you that I believe in you, and that you love me. I want to live my life for you. I ask that you would forgive me of my sins. I ask your spirit to enter into my life, and that you would have your way in me.

God thank you for your salvation. I pray that I could daily put on the helmet of salvation and protect my mind from any attack from the enemy. Help me to live by your truth and with my eyes fixed on you. I love you Lord. Amen.
