“And everything I’ve taught you is so that the peace which is in me will be in you and will give you great confidence as you rest in me. For in this unbelieving world you will experience trouble and sorrows, but you must be courageous, for I have conquered the world!” [John 16:33 TPT]

Peace.

The peace of God is mentioned so many times in the Bible, but what exactly is peace? I like to think of peace as a quiet assurance no matter what my life looks like at the moment. When I am overwhelmed with doubt or questions, God always loves to answer those with peace.

Let’s Get Practical!

I think there are a few key ingredients in the recipe of peace:

  1. Intimacy: By taking time to commune and have fellowship with God, you are better able to understand His heart for you. You build a history with Him, and you begin to have testimonies of His faithfulness and nearness in your life. As you move forward, you can look back on these moments and your relationship with Him. This makes the uncertainty of this world or a circumstance bearable. You can draw on these things and become assured of how He feels about you and that His heart is to bring goodness.

  2. Faith: As you get to know God, not only do you become aware of how He feels about you, but you also learn about who He is. Friend. Father. Protector. Comforter. Provider. Counselor. All of these things. You can draw on these aspects of God’s character when facing the unknowns of this world. You can have faith that He is who He says is every single time.

  3. Surrender: This is a huge aspect of peace in my opinion. Giving God our worries, dreams, future, family or anything else that is pressing on our mind can seem risky. However, I think it is one of the most beautiful gifts God has given us. The pressure to make any parts of our life work or to fix it is no longer ours. We give our life to Him, and His promise is to make something beautiful out of it.

Let’s Pray!

God, thank You for the gift of peace in my life. Help me to always turn my thoughts toward You and who You are when I am overwhelmed by worry or doubt. I pray I would know You rightly. Reveal Yourself to me in a new way. Help me to surrender every area of my life to You believing You will make it beautiful. Lastly, I pray that Your peace would be an overwhelming presence in my life. Amen.
