If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.  For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
— Colossians 3:1-4 ESV

Paul explains earlier in Colossians that we are new creations with Christ. And just because our identity is in Him doesn't mean that we get to sit back. We are told to set our minds on things that are above, not the things that are on earth. We are to clothe ourselves with things that are from Him. This is exciting. When I read this passage its kind of like we are getting a new wardrobe. We get to ditch the things that we were wearing and step into the new closet of clothes that we have with Him.

We don’t have to worry about what we used to be or what we used to wear because we have been raised with Christ. Our new identity is found in Him alone.

What wardrobe are you choosing to clothe yourselves with every morning? We get to take compassion and kindness with us. We get to let peace rule our hearts. That means we get to love our roommate even when they wake us up every morning with their alarm. That means that we get to choose peace even when we have that o-chem test that we don’t feel prepared for. And at first it may be a conscious choice: a choice to love or be kind or be gentle or show compassion. However, the more that we choose to clothe ourselves with the things above rather than things on earth the more it will become our lifestyle. It’s worth it. He is worth it.

God, I pray that this week we would choose to clothe ourselves with your character, your love and your truth. Would you come and set our eyes on you and you alone.
