God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
— 1 John 4:9-10 ESV

This passage is one of my favorites. It's one that I turn to often. The author of 1 John writes these words to tell us what love looks like to God. To God love looks like dedication. Love looks like commitment. Love looks like sacrifice. Love looks like life. God loved us first. Before we knew we needed love, He filled the gap. We were chosen before we chose Him. We were known before we knew Him.

This matters to us because there are moments where we don't love ourselves, others, or God. We feel overcome by darkness and chaos. In these moments we look to 1 John 4:9-10. We rest in the knowledge that we are chosen before our feet hit the floor in the morning. We are loved even when we feel like no one could love us. We are given life because God sent His son to die so that we may never taste death but rather have eternity with Him.

Now what? Now we choose joy. We choose love. We choose trust. You have the choice to let love in. You can walk a life of "surviving", hoping that God is good and loves you OR you can live a life full of power, knowing that you are loved by the Father and called into life abundant. Live in the love, it's more powerful than fear.

Jesus I thank you that you lived, died, and rose again so that I may know everlasting life. Father thank you for loving me even when I feel far from worthy. I thank you that loved starts and ends with you, that I am called to receive it not create it. I thank you for your faithfulness and adoption of me. Amen.
