that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
— 2 Corinthians 5:19-21 NIV

we traded our messiness for abundance

This is a really exciting passage. Not only is it retelling the gospel, but it’s a completely new communication of it revealing God’s heart for reconciliation. This is the reason I do what I do everyday.  In these verses we are told that we get a fresh start. We get to give every way we have messed up to Jesus and start over. Jesus came and traded us abundance for our messiness. No one is the exception. You are not the exception.

we get to be christ's ambassadors

This is important to know because it changes the way we get to live. We get to be “ Christ’s ambassadors”. That means that we are a light for the kingdom. With that comes zero pressure, just a really cool opportunity. When I first saw this verse after I became a Christian I felt pressure, but through the Holy Spirit I learned that this verse really gives us freedom.

you don't have to do it alone

God gave us this gift of “reconciliation”- this fresh start. My challenge to you and myself is to receive this gift. Part of receiving it is being obedient to the second part of these verses. Because he has given us reconciliation we cannot do this alone, and better yet we don't have to. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit how we can be his light and become his righteousness.

pray

I think this takes habit and practice. This is my prayer for you: "God, THANK YOU for taking every single one of our sins and not counting them against us. Thank you. You didn’t have to do any of it, but You love us so much that you gave us the greatest gift we have/will ever receive. We need You. We need You to show us how to be Your light in this world. "
