Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” So he told them this parable: “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
— Luke 15:1-7 ESV

God desires the "one"

In this passage Jesus shows us His heart. God is obsessed with lost people and is willing to go after the one. He not only goes after the one, but pursues the one until it is found. Once the one is found, he is placed on God's shoulders, who then takes responsibility for bringing that one home. That is who God is. God seeks us even in our wandering. He pursued us while we were still dead. God loves the one so much that He is willing to do whatever it takes to get them. He wants the one to come into the fold, just like the one sheep was brought back.

God's heart for this campus

This is God's heart for everyone on this campus! God desires for each lost and wandering soul to be brought back into the fold. In the same way that the one lost sheep matters, the one lost student in your class, dorm, or study group matters. God desires for them to be in relationship with Him!

There is always going to be a lost sheep present no matter where you are in life. There will be a person you know who you can build a better relationship with, love more, invest in more, or pursue more so that they can have the opportunity to experience God through you. Let the fact that God can give you his love and persistiance for these lost sheep encourage you!

Pray that God would reveal to you one person in your life who you can pursue like the shepherd pursued the lost sheep. If you already have someone in mind, pray that God would begin to soften their heart to receive from them. Pray that the Lord would use you to invite them into the fold of believers.
