The author of Hebrews is writing here to encourage the church to live lives filled with joy and purpose. There are 3 main points in these 3 verses. First to we are told about the value of community and how these people should call us to higher things and away from sin. Second we are reminded to keep our eyes on Jesus and how He chose the cross for us and that we may know Him. Third we are told not to grow weary and lose heart.
made on purpose and with purpose
These verses are my favorite because it reminds me that we are made on purpose and with purpose! Jesus endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God so that we could know Him! That’s amazing! We aren’t meant to live in sin and just surviving each day with the least amount of damage or pain. NO! We are meant to throw off sin and run with perseverance the race marked out for us fixing our eyes on Jesus. This means live life with steadfastness, don’t drag yourself out of bed disengaged with each moment. Life live like you mean to, you’ve got a race set out for you! Go find it!
We get to live in victory, that means we don’t have to fight to be children of God and beg to receive gifts from Him – we start each day His children and we end each day His children. We receive gifts because God wants to give them to us. He endured the cross because He thought it was good for us to know Him. We have a chance to know encouraging community because He wants us to be called to the better things in life and not be held back by sin. We get to have hope and not lose heart because we get to fix our eyes on Jesus.
Jesus I pray that you show me joy, real joy that turns into endurance. I pray that I wake up each morning with a passion to live with purpose. I pray that I seek real and healthy community that calls me to be more like you and throws off sin.
