Great blessings belong to those who are tempted and remain faithful! After they have proved their faith, God will give them the reward of eternal life. God promised this to all people who love him. Whenever you feel tempted to do something bad, you should not say, “God is tempting me.” Evil cannot tempt God, and God himself does not tempt anyone. You are tempted by the evil things you want. Your own desire leads you away and traps you. Your desire grows inside you until it results in sin. Then the sin grows bigger and bigger and finally ends in death.
— James 1:12-15 ERV

I think this passage does a really good job of leveling the playing field when it comes to temptation. It is something we ALL struggle with. That's a part of life here on Earth. But James also reminds us that what we do while being tempted is so important.

we get a choice

Here's the thing about temptation-- it exists. What matters when we are faced with temptation is how we react. Do we choose to remain faithful to God or do we get upset that we are even being tempted? It's easy to say we'll chose God when life is really good, but in a moment of temptation when we feel helpless, weak, or overcome by the enemy, we get to CHOOSE God and His faithfulness and protection. We get a choice when it comes to giving into temptation. God wants us to choose Him over the desires of our flesh.

Now we just need the Holy Spirit to help us when we are in the middle of a struggle--we get to cry out to the Helper when we are in need and ask for His help in a situation we can't handle. Crying out to God when it's hard honors Him. He wants us to choose Him in those situations and when we do, He comes through just like He always does.

God, I ask for the grace to ask you for help when I'm stuck in the middle of a temptation or a struggle. I ask that I would remember You in the midst of hard times and choose You over the enemy and his lies. Thank You for being stronger than my strongholds and for being my rescuer.
