He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
— Colossians 1:17-20 NIV

there is nothing bigger than Jesus

This passage brings it back to Jesus. Jesus is the center, the head of the church and the body. He is supreme overy everything. God had his fullness dwell in Him. Jesus brought peace between us - as inherently sinful beings - and God. He did this through His blood shed on the cross for our sins.

Something I love about this verse is the hope that it brings to us. Christ is before all things, and everything is held together in Him. Jesus holds the universe and everything in it in place. This fact alone gives me comfort whenever I feel like this world out of control. There is nothing that Jesus does not have supremacy over. There is nothing bigger than Jesus. There is nothing that can beat Jesus.

we get to share in God's power

This matters to us because through our redemption, which was achieved when Jesus died for our sins, we became children of God. We get to share in the power that Jesus has. This means that because we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, no power of this world can reign over us either!

a practical step

If you feel like there's one sin you can't seem to shake, depression or anxiety you can't get rid of, or are just doubting the power of God - I encourage you to take some time (seriously, take at least 10 minutes) and really ask God to come move in power in whatever area you're struggling in. Meditate on this passage - read it bit by bit and let this truth sink in as you sit with God. Ask Him to increase your faith, He won't ignore you!
