8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.
— Colossians 2:8-10 ESV

The author of Colossians is writing to the church in Colossae. This letter was written to encourage the church, answer some questions, and address some problems that had come up. The author writes here to warn the Church not to be bogged down and consumed with arguments that lead to nothing and aren’t filled with Christ.

we can know the truth

We have the full authority of Christ in us. The Bible says that the same power that rose Jesus from the dead, lives in us. When people come against us by questioning what we believe or challenging us with “good” things that are of the world but not of God, we have the ability to know the Truth and power of Jesus.

He has not held back anything from us. The message version of this text says “Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.” We have the ability to know our God and ask Him our big questions. We have a God who longs to tell us the answers. We have the ability to hear Him and know that He is good.

Jesus, thank you that you are true, that you don't want to live a disconnected life from us, and that you love us. Thank you for leaving your throne to meet your creation face to face. Thank you that your word stands through time.
