He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
— Colossians 1:15-17 NASB

jesus is fully god

When I first read this passage the header that was put on it was "The Supremacy of Christ." Many times we compare Jesus to being the 'friend aspect' of the Trinity. When we normally think of friends we don't think of one being "supreme" over the other. I think that Paul is trying to communicate that while we are able to have this personal relationship, Jesus is still fully God, Jesus is not part God. Jesus is not a second rate version of God. Jesus is the image and representation of God on this earth because He is fully God.

This means that when we view God as One among us, we are not diminishing God's power or authority. Instead, we can gratefully recognize that God who is so great in the heavens and on the earth makes a decision to humble Himself to live among His creation and have relationship with us. Not only did God create us (supremacy), but it specifically notes that we were created for Him. We were created to be in relationship with Him. We as humans are chosen to be loved and to love the One who reigns over all creation.

I think all of this gives us reason to rejoice that God never has to take away anything from Himself to be in relationship with us. We have a God who doesn't just call us to humility but demonstrates it for us. Also, we can always rest in the fact that we can know who God is/what He is like through the life and teachings of Jesus.

Take a moment to pray to God thanking Him for choosing to be in relationship with us. Thank Him for who He is and for the display of humility we have been given. We have a reason to be grateful: God is supreme and we get the opportunity to be in a relationship with Him.
