"You only I have chosen," "Out of all the families on the earth I picked you," "You only have I known of all the families of the earth." These are three variations of Amos verse two. He chose us. God, through the profit of Amos, calls his people to listen to him. He is not just calling to the people of Israel but his whole family. He asks for everyone to listen to what He is saying. God is near to these people. He has chosen them and is close to them. He continually chooses them and the people continue to disregard what he is saying. The title of this chapter is called Witnesses Summoned Against Israel. Summoned means to urgently call people. He is urgently calling all of his people to listen. God does not leave himself without witnesses for his plan. Verses 3-6 serve as a warning to the people. “The lion has roared, the trumpet has sounded. When disaster comes to a city, has not the Lord caused it? Surely the sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.” The lord does nothing without revealing his plan.
ow does this relate to me? I find myself selfish at times and that is a question I constantly ask myself. The Lord chooses every single one us everyday. When he died on the cross he chose to take care of every sin for the rest of our lives. The creator of this universe picks us on our team first everyday but do we?
We have the ability to walk as two together with him or we can choose to do apart from Him. Why do we not choose him in all of our plans? The lord does nothing with out revealing his plans to us but it seems that we only choose him in some of our plans. So my challenge for you this week is to see what areas of life you choose him in and what areas you choose to leave him out. Why would we not want to know his plans and knowingly choose to partner with him. Whether that is inviting him into your sorority/fraternity or inviting to be apart of your hall—He can do it all. He is not just a God who moves in a Freshley/Wesley service. He is not just a God who speaks through a Sunday gathering. He is an everyday good God who chooses us through it all. We have the same ability to choose him right back. Just do it.
Lord, I thank you for choosing us. I thank you that you do nothing without revealing your plan. I thank you that you are a God that we are able to have a relationship with. I pray this week that it is so easy to see the areas where we choose you and just as easy to see the areas where we neglect to choose you. I pray that in these areas that we do not choose you that this week that changes. That we want to invite you in. We want to pick you first. God, I thank you for allowing us to see these areas and not just let us sit in them. That you are always for us and not against us. Amen.
