Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, ‘Jesus be cursed,’ and no one can say, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ except by the Holy Spirit.

There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another miraculous power, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

- 1 Corinthians 12:1-11

When it comes to the spiritual gifts, Paul is clear to communicate a few things:

1. "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all." All of these gifts are from God. They are not things we can boast in of ourselves.

2. "A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other." God's purpose behind the spiritual gifts is to build of the body of Christ or to 'help each other'. They are given so we can advance the kingdom of God and encourage other Christians.

3. "It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have." God gives out His spiritual gifts purposefully. We are not to envy other gifts but to celebrate them.

God moving in supernatural ways through the gifts was an extremely common thing throughout scripture and even till this day. He has given every one of us gifts which we can use to build up the body of Christ. Knowing your spiritual gifts is extremely beneficial in your walk with God and in the mission of God.

I encourage all of you to go through these first eleven verses in 1 Corinthians 12 and pray over them. Ask God to highlight any gifts you may have or to give you clarity with anything you are confused about.

Father,

Thank you for the gifts of the Spirit. Would you reveal to me gifts that you have given to me, so I may begin to walk more in the fullness you have for me. Will you equip me so I may use them effectively and powerfully for your glory.
