In this passage, Jesus establishes his authority by noting that all things from the Father have been revealed to Him. At first, it seems scary to see that only those whom the Son chooses to reveal the Father to will be able to know the Father. However, that verse is immediately followed by Jesus telling all those who are weary and burdened to come to Him.
Have you ever felt weary or burdened? I'm assuming the answer to that question is yes which is good news! Jesus says that the things of the Father are hidden to those who are wise and learned. When reading that, I think it is safe to read it as those who believe themselves to be wise and learned. Sometimes, it can be easy for us to feel like we need to have it all together. When we recognize that we have struggles, God reveals himself to us in our need. When we act like we know everything, we tend to go about things on our own and leave God out of the picture. Jesus says that he came for those who need help. He has come to set us free, heal us, and reveal the things of the Father to us.
Let us recognize our need for God and let him reveal who he is in our weakness and limited knowledge of him. He's calling on us to come to Him!
God, I recognize that I need you in my life. Your ways and knowledge are above mine so may you reveal the things from above to me. I want to know you more and know your ways. Thank you for your son Jesus and what he reveals to us. I want to learn how to walk in the freedom you offer so show me how I can do that. In your son's name, amen.
